EU poised to accept Brexit delay request after PM ‘pauses’ deal legislation

More than three years after Britain voted to leave the European Union, Boris Johnson achieved what his predecessor never could – the House of Common’s backing for his Brexit deal.

But within minutes of that victory, many of those same MPs rejected his attempt to make it law by 31 October.

Afterwards the Prime Minister asked the EU to decline his request for an extension. That was apparently ignored as the commission’s president moved to avoid a no-deal exit.
