Juncker: Brexit’s a ‘waste of time and waste of energy’ it has ‘pained me’

Brexit has been a waste of time and energy, Jean-Claude Juncker said during a European Parliament debate where Donald Tusk warned that a no deal Brexit would always be Britain’s fault.

In one of his final speeches in Strasbourg, the president of the European Commission said that the EU had done everything it could to avoid a damaging no deal Brexit and to make contingency plans it case it happened.

Mr Juncker, who is approaching the end of his five-year term, said on Tuesday that the European Parliament would not vote on the new Brexit deal until MPs in Westminster approved the agreement. MPs are expected to vote on the Withdrawal Act Bill this evening after a Saturday vote was cancelled.
