Iranian oil tanker leaves Gibraltar one month after being seized

British Royal Marines seized the Grace 1 (pictured preparing to weigh anchor and inset right marine traffic map) off the headland in July on suspicion of carrying oil to Syria, a close ally of Iran, which supposedly violated European Union sanctions. This triggered a series of tit-for-tat hijackings in the Gulf’s oil routes which have put western relations with Iran on a knife edge. The Grace 1, renamed the Adrian Darya 1, left anchorage off Gibraltar around 11pm, Refinitiv shipping data showed. Its destination was not immediately clear.
